Nice one Rose, I’m really proud of you.
Just been watching the scenes of happy voters on BBC tv, especially the women leaving the polling stations smiling/warbling and giving the ‘V’ sign with their indelible index finger. First indications are the turnout in both Baghdad and the rest of Iraq is far higher than anybody expected.
Loved your picture of Democracy - it reminded me of Winston Churchill's "V" sign, he was a smoker and had nicotine stains too. ;-)

Oh, Rose, what to say; so much emotion. You did it! Not only did you vote, but you faced down the demons. I know it must have been a hard decision for you which makes it all the more special. In some ways it's like America and terrorism. You can either hide your head in the sand, you can try diplomacy and hope it doesn't grow, OR you can say no more to the status quo and do something about it because there is no other real choice.

Rose! I'm so happy for you! I thought you weren't going to vote, and I was very sad about that, although I understand that I don't really know what I would do if I were in your situation. I know what I hope I would do, but I can't be sure I would live up to my hopes.
I went to bed at midnight last night praying for the people of Iraq and I woke up praying still. So many Americans so very earnestly desire for Iraq to be a free and democratic nation where families can live and worship in peace.
After we got home from church, I started checking blogs and newsites, and when I got to yours I was so astonished and thrilled to read that you voted that I actually yelled- and my children, of course, wanted to know what that was all about.

Congratulations on your courageous decision. The news reports about high voter turnout there suggest a lot of other Iraqis made the same courageous decision and voted - which is important because if moderate people like you don't vote, the election is left in the hands of the extremists. I was very happy and relieved to hear that the violence was not as bad as people thought it would be and that many people made it to the polls.
Just think, in another 30 or 40 years, you will probably be showing your grandchildren that picture of your ink-stained hand and telling them about what you did today.

I remember in one of your earlier posts that you were concerned about how the rest of the world perceived Iraqis and dreaded they would typecast you in the same mould as backward people in Afghanistan. The above 58 spontaneous replies have put your fears to rest. You also said your Father was afraid of civil war. When your new constitution is drafted by all the candidates that you have just elected and voted on by you later in the year, that will also lessen the likelihood of that happening.
Your bravery is not only an example for the Iraqi people, but it something the people in the United States should take notice of. I know of too many people who don’t vote because it’s too much trouble to get the polls. It might be snowing or raining, or the might feel their vote doesn’t count. Every vote counts! In the US, we can walk or get in our cars and go to the polls without fear of being shot at or blown up! Rose, you believed in something and you risked your life to express you opinion and desire to create a new Iraq. We are behind you 100%! I pray that all goes well for your country and for your and your family. Democracy is hard; you have to want it real bad!

A favorite pastime of mine is Sports Betting to make a few extra bucks.
My only problems is that I was never good at picking teams or games.
Recently I found a site that is like Sports Betting but I dont lose my money if my pick is bad.
Its a sports stock market, kinda like NASDAQ. which makes a big difference because if I buy shares in a team. I keep the stock whether they win or lose, but as a bonus I get paid divdends if they win.
So I can make money with dividends and also from selling high and buying low.
I buy shares in NFL, NASCAR, NCAAB, MLB, Golf, Tennis ect....

Then I'm gonna go home, put ma dancin' suit on, munch me some uppers and freak out to that maaaaaaaaad surfing scene in Apocalypse Now on ma lcd tv .
