How can we make up for those people?

I was still sleepy today, when I heard an explosion. I thought I was dreaming and when I finally woke up, I opened the TV and found that there were several explosions in Baghdad and not only the one I thought I was dreaming about. The victims were Iraqis again. Later I heard on TV that a director in the ministry of science and technology was shot dead, an oculist was shot dead in front of his house, and a chief police was also shot in front of his house. Finally a brigadier in our national guard was shot dead too.

Killing and kidnapping doctors and professors started after Baghdad's fall. Many doctors were kidnapped and after paying a large amount of money, the kidnappers release them but they forced them to leave the country or not to practice medicine again. And the reason beyond this is still unknown. Many good doctors left Iraq and settled either in Jordan or Syria and some of them found jobs in other countries. It is hard to find a very good doctor Still working in Iraq. My daughter's podiatrist, our oculist doctor (who was kidnapped and later release after paying a ransom), my gynecologist and an otolaryngologist neighbor were among those doctors who left Iraq. As for the scientists they were shot dead without a warning or a ransom. Till now 70 scientists and 32 doctors had been killed in Iraq.
How can we make up for those people? I can't answer that question.

The "Man on a White Horse" dictator cannot come to office to bring order out of chaos unless there is chaos.

Many professional Iraqis, like those you mentioned, escaped Iraq during Saddams time in power and were granted political asylum in England and have settled into jobs and are now earning upwards of £50,000 per year (us$1.72=£1). After Saddams overthrow many of them wanted to return and help rebuild their country and a delegation of them met with Tony Blair with this in mind but from what you say they would be now be aware of the problems they face. Everything is not doom and gloom though because when law and order is finally brought under control those doctors, opticians, gynaecologist's and scientists will return with enough money to easily start up their business's. Coalition forces have to stay there until law and order is achieved because, as you are aware, anarchy will take over. Hopefully the new Iraqi government will make laws that will clamp down hard on the criminals that are holding your society back.

Hi Rose,

Wonderful description of Iraqi weddings. Much of it reminds me of complicated Taiwanese wedding issues, but I think that's because of heavy family and communal qualities in both cultures. Money, too - Taiwanese (at least my family) generally aren't wealthy.

On keeping the very important skills in Iraq, it always comes back to the same thing - security, stability and control.

Unfortunately, the insurgents are fighting the future. Their chosen targets, as you described them, along with the atmosphere of danger and chaos they create are guided towards disallowing the choice of a certain kind of future for Iraq.

If security, stability and control can be established, there is still - even now - enormous international aid and expertise ready to pour into Iraq, on top of what has already been invested. A secure and stable Iraq will have no problem retaining as well as bringing back everyone and everything you need.

Securing Iraq is no small problem, though. It will need everyone, Iraqis and your allies, working together.

Your opinion only Rose.. not what any politicians or militants tell you...
If tomorrow. The US and it's allies walked out. Packed up completely and just left.. Would it be all better? I mean obviously the attacks aimed on Americans and between Americans and the fighters would cease, which would end some of the damages. But do you think the terrorists would just accept it as a victory and leave the innocent people alone? or do you think they would keep at the...well.. Terrorism they have been doing? And.. do you think it would be worth it in the long run if we did just leave tomorrow? Short term obviously, less death and destruction. Long run though?

Thats a great view point. I had not really considered it from that perspective before regarding free work at home job listing. Put it this way, most people who are rich have their own businesses many of which started as a work from home based business. I have an article based webs site discussing such issues as free work at home job listing which should be an eye opener for most people thinking of starting their own home business. Keep up the great information with your blog.
